1. About these Terms
Welcome to WordEdge. WordEdge is a vocabulary and pronunciation practice
app operated by Macrame, LLC, a Delaware limited
liability company (“Macrame,” “we,”
“us,” or “our”). These Terms of Service (the
“Terms”) govern your access to and use of WordEdge,
including the website at wordedge.lingovea.com, the iOS and
Android applications, and any related APIs (collectively, the
“Service”).
By creating an account, signing in, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
If you are using the Service on behalf of another person or entity, you represent that you have the authority to bind that person or entity to these Terms, and “you” refers to both you individually and that person or entity.
Macrame also operates ShadowEdge (
shadowedge.app), a language-shadowing practice app, and
the GoShadowing-branded marketing surfaces at
goshadowing.com. ShadowEdge has its own Terms of Service
and Privacy Policy; these Terms govern WordEdge only.
2. Who can use WordEdge
You may use the Service only if you can form a binding contract with Macrame and only in compliance with these Terms and all applicable laws.
- You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are between 13 and the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you may use the Service only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf.
- The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it. See our Privacy Policy.
- You must not be barred from using the Service under applicable law, including U.S. export-control or sanctions law.
- One human user per account. Account-sharing is prohibited (see §7 Acceptable use).
3. Your account
To use most features of the Service you need an account. You agree to:
- Provide accurate and current information at signup, and keep that information up to date.
- Maintain the confidentiality of your sign-in credentials.
- Notify us promptly at support@lingovea.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
- Not share your credentials with anyone, and not allow anyone else to use your account.
You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account, except to the extent that activity results from our breach of these Terms or our security obligations under applicable law.
WordEdge and ShadowEdge, both operated by Macrame, share a single account system — your Lingovea account. If you already created an account in one product, sign in to the other with the same email and credentials; you do not need to register separately. Your decks, progress, and recordings in each product stay separate even though the account itself is shared.
4. What WordEdge does
The core practice loop:
- You build a deck — from the built-in dictionary, your own words, or a curated list you adopt.
- You learn each word with flip cards showing every sense, grouped by part of speech.
- You review with spaced repetition across multiple modes — meaning, recall, listening, spelling and cloze.
- You record yourself saying the word and get a score for the word and for every phoneme in it.
Your practice data is private to your account. Your decks, your notes, your recordings and your pronunciation scores are accessible only to you. We do not stream, broadcast, share, sell, license, or republish your recordings or scores to anyone, ever.
The Service includes:
- The built-in dictionary. Senses, parts of speech, inflections and examples for the words you look up or add.
- Curated lists. Word lists prepared or licensed by Macrame that you can adopt into your own deck.
- Pronunciation scoring. Two engines behind the scenes — a standard lane that runs on our own infrastructure at no extra cost, and a higher-fidelity cloud lane (Microsoft Azure Speech) with plan-based daily and monthly allowances described at /plans.
We may add, change, or remove features over time. Material changes that reduce a benefit you have paid for are addressed in §15 Changes to the Service and these Terms.
5. Plans and billing
5.1 Plans
WordEdge offers a Free plan, a paid Pro subscription (monthly or annual), and a one-time Pro Lifetime purchase. Current pricing, included features and usage limits are listed at /plans. Prices are shown in U.S. dollars.
The Service imposes usage limits at each plan tier — for example, a daily allowance of cloud pronunciation scoring. Those limits are part of the plan and may be updated; material reductions to a paid plan you currently subscribe to are addressed in §15.
5.2 Free plan
The Free plan is available without a credit card and may be used indefinitely subject to the limits posted at /plans. Nothing you build on Free is ever deleted for staying on Free or for lapsing on a paid plan — your decks, words, review history and pronunciation scores are kept regardless. We may, in our discretion, modify posted limits or throttle usage we reasonably determine is abusive.
5.3 Free trial
Eligible new accounts may start a 14-day free trial of Pro through the App Store or Google Play account you sign up with. You are not charged during the trial period. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your subscription automatically converts to a paid plan and the store account on file is charged the then-current price for the plan you selected, renewing automatically thereafter as described in §5.4. You may cancel at any time during the trial from your store account settings; if you cancel before it ends, you are not charged and your account moves to Free-tier limits. The trial may be started only once per account.
5.4 Subscriptions and auto-renewal
Paid monthly and annual subscriptions renew automatically at the same plan and billing period until cancelled. Each renewal charges the payment method on file at the then-current price. You may cancel a subscription at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep Pro until that date. We do not pro-rate cancellations, except where required by law.
Pro Lifetime is charged once and grants Pro access for as long as the Service operates and these Terms remain in force. It is feature-identical to a Pro subscription; the only difference is billing. Lifetime purchases are non-refundable (see §5.6), except where a refund is required by law.
5.5 Payment processing
WordEdge purchases are made as in-app purchases through the Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not currently offer a separate web checkout. Payment is processed entirely by Apple or Google under their own billing terms, which apply in addition to these Terms. Store purchases are billed to the payment method on file with your Apple ID or Google account, not by Macrame directly.
5.6 Refunds and cancellation
Because purchases are made through the App Store or Google Play, refunds are requested through the relevant store and governed by that store’s refund policy, not by Macrame directly — we have no ability to issue a refund on a store purchase ourselves. Cancel a subscription from the same store account you subscribed through; you keep Pro until the end of the period you have already paid for. Lifetime purchases are non-refundable once the store’s own refund window (if any) has passed, except where applicable law requires otherwise. Where a jurisdiction (including the EU and UK) grants a statutory right of withdrawal, that right applies in addition to the store’s policy.
If your account is terminated under §14 for material breach by you, no refund is owed for the unused portion of any plan, except where law requires otherwise.
5.7 Taxes
Prices listed do not include taxes unless stated. Where a store collects and remits sales, use, or value-added tax on your purchase, that amount is added at checkout by the store, not by Macrame.
6. Your content and your rights
“Your Content” means the words, decks, notes, recordings, pronunciation scores, settings, and other data you create within the Service.
You retain all rights you have in Your Content. We do not claim ownership of Your Content.
You grant Macrame a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, score, and display Your Content solely as necessary to operate the Service for you . This license ends when you delete the relevant Content from your account or close your account, except for backups retained for the periods described in the Privacy Policy.
We do not use Your Content to train machine-learning models for other users, build advertising profiles, share it with advertisers, or sell it to third parties. We do not display your recordings or your pronunciation scores to any other user, ever.
Aggregated, de-identified data. We may compute aggregated, statistical metrics from usage of the Service (for example, the median scoring latency across all users in a region) for operational, security, and quality-improvement purposes. Aggregated metrics do not include Your Content and are not attributable to any individual user.
Curated content and the dictionary. The built-in dictionary data and the curated lists are owned by Macrame or licensed to Macrame by third parties, and remain their respective owners’ property. Adopting a curated list into your deck gives you a personal copy to practise with under the limited license in §8; it does not transfer ownership of the underlying content to you.
7. Acceptable use
By using WordEdge, you agree to follow these rules. We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if you violate them. You agree not to use the Service to:
- Share your account credentials with any other person, or allow any other person to use your account.
- Scrape, automate requests at a rate inconsistent with personal practice, reverse-engineer the API, or otherwise interact with the Service in any manner not contemplated by the user-facing applications.
- Submit words, notes, or other content that is unlawful, infringing, defamatory, harassing, or otherwise prohibited by law.
- Circumvent or attempt to circumvent any usage limit, entitlement check, or technical protection measure in the Service.
- Use the Service to harm minors in any way, or to attempt unauthorized access to any system, service, or account.
- Resell, sublicense, or provide the Service to third parties as your own product.
Where we have reason to believe you have violated this section, we may, at our discretion: remove the offending content; warn you; temporarily suspend your account; terminate your account; or pursue legal remedies.
8. Third-party platforms
Purchases and subscription management run through the Apple App Store and Google Play, and are subject to those platforms’ own terms in addition to these Terms. Macrame is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Apple or Google. Any account-level consequences imposed by a platform on your store account (for example, a payment dispute) are between you and that platform.
9. Our intellectual property
The Service — including its software, models, the curated lists, the
dictionary content compiled for WordEdge, the WordEdge brand, our
logos, and the look and feel of wordedge.lingovea.com and our
applications — is owned by Macrame or our licensors and is protected
by copyright, trademark, and other laws.
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to access and use the Service for personal, non-commercial language learning. We do not grant you any other rights. In particular, you may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service; reverse-engineer or attempt to extract source code, model weights, or scoring algorithms from the Service, except to the extent applicable law expressly permits; use any robot, scraper, or automated means to access the Service; or remove or obscure any proprietary notices on the Service.
10. Feedback
If you send us suggestions, ideas, comments, or other feedback about the Service (“Feedback”), you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to use the Feedback for any purpose. We are not obligated to use any Feedback or to compensate you for it.
11. Copyright and DMCA
WordEdge’s content is mostly first-party: the words you add come from a licensed dictionary or your own typing, and curated lists are prepared or licensed by Macrame. If you believe content on WordEdge infringes your copyright, send a notice under 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3) — identifying the work, the material you believe infringes it, and a statement of good-faith belief and accuracy under penalty of perjury — to our designated agent below. We will remove or disable access to infringing material we control and, where a notice concerns a specific user account, may warn, suspend, or terminate that account for repeat infringement.

12. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MACRAME DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTY ARISING FROM COURSE OF DEALING, USAGE, OR TRADE PRACTICE.
WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, MACRAME DOES NOT WARRANT THAT (A) THE SERVICE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, (B) THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, (C) PRONUNCIATION SCORES, DICTIONARY CONTENT, OR CURATED LISTS WILL BE ACCURATE OR FREE FROM ERROR, OR (D) ANY DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties; in those jurisdictions, the foregoing exclusions apply only to the extent permitted.
13. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL MACRAME, ITS AFFILIATES, OR THEIR RESPECTIVE OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE, WHETHER BASED ON WARRANTY, CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STATUTE, OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, AND WHETHER OR NOT MACRAME HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
MACRAME’S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO MACRAME FOR THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) USD $50.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law. In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, the foregoing limitations apply to you only to the extent permitted by law.
14. Indemnification
You will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Macrame, its affiliates, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claim, demand, loss, liability, damage, or expense (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to: your use of the Service in violation of these Terms; Your Content, including any claim that it infringes a third party’s right; your violation of any applicable law or any third-party platform’s terms in connection with your use of the Service; or any breach by you of §7.
15. Termination
15.1 Termination by you
You may close your account at any time from within the app or by emailing support@lingovea.com. Closing your account ends your right to use the Service. We retain and delete your account data per the Privacy Policy.
15.2 Termination or suspension by us
We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if:
- You materially breach these Terms (including §7 or §9);
- We are required to do so by law or a binding order;
- We reasonably determine your use of the Service creates a security or operational risk; or
- We discontinue the Service in your region (we will provide reasonable notice).
15.3 Effects of termination
On termination, your right to use the Service ends. We will, on request, provide an export of Your Content within a reasonable period. Sections that by their nature should survive (including §5, §6, §9–§14, §16, §17, and this §15.3) survive termination.
16. Changes to the Service and these Terms
Changes to the Service. We may add, change, or remove features. Where a change materially reduces a benefit you have paid for under your current plan, we will provide at least 30 days’ notice by email before the change takes effect.
Changes to these Terms. We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes — including changes to acceptable use, dispute-resolution, or refund terms — will be announced by email to registered users at least 30 days before they take effect, except where law requires earlier action. Non-material changes (typo fixes, clarifications, formatting) take effect on the date this page is updated. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of an update constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change. Prior versions are available on request at legal@macrame.io.
17. Disputes and governing law
Informal resolution first. If you have a dispute with Macrame arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms, please contact us first at legal@macrame.io so we can try to resolve it informally. We will respond within 30 days of receipt and work in good faith for at least another 30 days before either of us commences a formal proceeding.
Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, except where applicable consumer-protection law in your jurisdiction grants you mandatory rights that cannot be waived by contract — those rights apply in addition to these Terms.
Binding individual arbitration. Except for the carve-outs in this section, you and Macrame agree that any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service (a “Dispute”) that is not resolved through informal resolution above will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules then in effect. The arbitrator has exclusive authority to resolve any Dispute, including the scope, enforceability, or formation of this arbitration agreement. The arbitration will be conducted in English, and the arbitrator’s decision will be final and binding.
Class-action waiver. You and Macrame agree that each may bring claims against the other only in your or its individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, consolidated, or representative proceeding. If this class-action waiver is found to be unenforceable, then the entirety of the binding-arbitration provision above will be null and void as to the affected Dispute, and that Dispute will instead proceed in court under the forum-selection clause below.
30-day opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing legal@macrame.io with the subject line “Arbitration Opt-Out,” including your name, your account email, and a clear statement that you wish to opt out. Your notice must be received within 30 days of the date you first accept these Terms. Opting out has no effect on any other portion of these Terms and will not affect your access to the Service.
Small-claims and injunctive-relief carve-outs. Either party may bring a qualifying claim in small-claims court for your county of residence, and either party may bring an action in court to seek temporary or preliminary injunctive relief to protect its intellectual-property rights pending arbitration.
Forum for non-arbitrable claims. Any action not subject to arbitration under this section will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in the State of Delaware, and you and Macrame consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
Time limit. Any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service must be filed within one year after the cause of action arises, except where law requires a longer period.
18. International users and export controls
The Service is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with local law to the extent local law applies. You may not use the Service in violation of U.S. export-control or sanctions laws. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a comprehensive U.S. embargo and are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
19. General
Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any plan-specific terms presented to you in the Service, constitute the entire agreement between you and Macrame regarding the Service and supersede prior agreements on the same subject matter.
No waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms is not a waiver of that provision.
Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect, and the unenforceable provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving its intent.
Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or by operation of law, on notice to you.
No agency. Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, joint venture, employment, or agency relationship between you and Macrame.
Notices. We may send notices to you by email to the address associated with your account or by posting them in the Service. You may send notices to us at legal@macrame.io or by mail to: Macrame, LLC, 14173 Northwest Fwy, Unit #2099, Houston, TX 77040.
